Experience the virtuosity of Andrey Gugnin, the “Triple Crown” pianist acclaimed for his extraordinary technique, musical imagination, and impassioned artistry. Gugnin has rapidly risen to international prominence, winning top prizes at the Sydney International Piano Competition, the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, and the Classic Piano International Competition in Dubai, where his performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 earned him the grand prize. Praised by Gramophone for his “extraordinarily versatile and agile technique, which serves an often inspired musical imagination,” Gugnin is recognized as one of today’s most compelling young pianists.
Gugnin has performed with leading orchestras worldwide, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Danish Radio Orchestra, Mariinsky Symphony Orchestra, Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, Utah Symphony, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Jaap van Zweden, Reinbert de Leeuw, Daniel Raiskin, Stanislav Kochanovsky, and Asher Fisch. Equally at home in chamber music, Gugnin has performed with the Asko Schönberg Ensemble, Camerata Salzburg, Jerusalem Camerata, and in duo recitals with violinist Tasmin Little, receiving praise for his “emphatic, mesmerising playing” (Bachtrack).
As a recording artist, Gugnin’s discography spans solo piano works and orchestral collaborations. His release of Liszt’s Transcendental Etudes (Piano Classics, 2018) was commended as Editor’s Choice and marked him as “one to watch” (Gramophone). Other notable recordings include Scriabin’s complete Mazurkas (Hyperion, 2022), awarded Recording of the Month by Limelight Magazine, and Shostakovich’s 24 Preludes & Piano Sonatas (Hyperion, 2020), winner of the BBC Music Magazine Instrumental Award. His recordings have also appeared on the soundtrack of Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-winning film Bridge of Spies.
In this special tour, Gugnin brings the full grandeur of Liszt’s Transcendental Etudes to Chinese audiences. These works, celebrated for their technical brilliance and musical depth, allow Gugnin to demonstrate both virtuosic command and profound interpretive insight. Audiences can expect an evening of electrifying pianism, where technical mastery meets poetic expression.
