In late November and early December, Polish-born pianist Piotr Anderszewski will present a solo recital in China. Widely acknowledged as one of the most distinguished artists of his generation, Anderszewski has steadily built an international reputation since his debut in the early 1990s.
Born in Warsaw to Polish-Hungarian parents, Anderszewski began piano studies at an early age and gradually honed a deeply personal and uncompromising artistic voice. His public breakthrough came in 1990 at the Leeds Piano Competition — though he withdrew in the semifinals feeling his performance was insufficiently mature, within six months he made his London debut at the Wigmore Hall. Over the following decades, he has appeared in the world’s great venues — from Carnegie Hall to the Vienna Konzerthaus, from London’s Barbican Centre to the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam — and collaborated with leading orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, among many others.
Since 2000 Anderszewski has been an exclusive artist for the label Warner Classics (formerly Virgin Classics). His discography is modest in volume but unmatched in quality. His landmark recording of Beethoven's Diabelli Variations earned top honors such as the Choc du Monde de la Musique and an ECHO Klassik Award. A subsequent CD of works by his compatriot Karol Szymanowski won the 2006 Classic FM Gramophone Award for Best Instrumental Album. His 2012 recording of solo piano works by was awarded the coveted Recording of the Year by . His later exploration of Bach’s keyboard works — including English Suites and the Well-Tempered Clavier — continued to earn major awards, including a Gramophone Award in 2015.
